Academic Warning

Policy Basis

This page is compiled from the "Qingdao University Undergraduate Academic Warning Interim Management Measures" (Document No. QDU-Jiao [2015] 18), effective from the Class of 2014 onwards. If there are any changes, please refer to the latest documents from the Academic Affairs Office.

Academic warning is a system for the university to remind and provide targeted support to students who have developed learning problems or academic difficulties. It is conducted once per semester.

Warning Levels

Level Trigger Condition
Yellow Warning Earning an average of fewer than 15 credits across two consecutive semesters; or accumulating 50%–70% failing grades in required courses
Red Warning Earning an average of fewer than 15 credits across three consecutive semesters; or accumulating more than 70% failing grades in required courses

Work Process

  1. At the beginning of each semester, the department compiles students' academic situations, determines the academic warning list, and files it with the Academic Affairs Office
  2. The department issues the "Qingdao University Student Academic Warning Notice" to students and arranges dedicated personnel for academic guidance and support
  3. The department sends the "Qingdao University Student Academic Warning Parent Notification Letter" to students' parents, retaining mailing proof and receipts

Support Requirements

  • Students who receive a warning should promptly adjust their course plan under the guidance of their academic advisor. In principle, retaking failed required courses takes priority
  • For students who receive a red warning, the department will communicate with parents to jointly provide support
