Military Training Guide

Basic Military Training Arrangements

  • Starts the day after registration – uniform distribution and training begin
  • Duration is about two weeks (around ten days), relatively short
  • Training includes: standing at attention, marching in step, stepping in place, at ease, and other basic drills
  • The College of Computer Science and Technology may have a special demonstration platoon (selected male students will be chosen later for training)
  • Morning and afternoon sessions are each about four hours, with dismissal times varying depending on the situation
  • No night training, no 800-meter run
  • No forced marches, focused on basic drills
  • At the end there is a military parade, with all colleges participating; each college selects one formation for the training performance
  • No classes during the training period; there may be activities on the last day
  • After military training comes the opening ceremony, where you will march in formation

Daily Schedule Reference

Period Approximate Time
Morning wake-up After 7:00 AM

The specific schedule will be issued during training; just wake up twenty minutes ahead of the schedule.

Temporary Person-in-Charge During Training

During the training period there is a temporary person-in-charge (similar to a class assistant role). You can sign up individually; the class monitor will notify you.

Military Training Uniforms

Uniform Contents

Uniforms are ordered collectively by the school. The set includes: hat, short-sleeve T-shirt, long-sleeve jacket, belt (worn outside), pants, socks, shoes, shoulder boards, and badges.

Size Selection

  • A booklet with ordering instructions is included with the admission notice; choose your size in advance as directed
  • You can also pick up the appropriate size after the semester starts based on your height and weight
  • If it doesn’t fit, you can exchange it after the semester starts
  • After receiving the uniform, be sure to try it on; if an exchange is needed, return to the distribution point immediately

Shoes and Insoles

  • Shoes are provided uniformly; recommend going half a size up, and use insoles or extra-large cotton sanitary pads inside
  • The provided insoles are not very comfortable; it is strongly recommended to bring your own thick insoles or sanitary pads
  • Take care of your feet – use insoles

  • Long hair must be coiled and tucked into the hat
  • Ice sleeves are not allowed during training

Small hair clips and hair ties (to secure loose hair and keep hair in place).

Sun Protection and Heatstroke Prevention

Sun protection is of utmost importance

Qingdao is located by the sea, and UV radiation is strong in August and September. Without sun protection, sunburn is very likely. Don’t think being a little tanner is fine; Qingdao’s tanning efficiency is extremely high, and sunburn is very painful.

Sun Protection Tips

  • Apply sunscreen half an hour before going out to allow time for absorption
  • Carry sunscreen with you; generally reapply every two hours
  • Correct steps: First use oil-absorbing paper to clean your face, then apply sunscreen
  • You sweat a lot during training; whenever the instructor lets you rest, apply more
  • Recommended: sunscreen with UVA protection (those with PA rating)
  • During rest periods, you are allowed to apply sunscreen and drink water

Heatstroke Prevention

  • Prepare Huoxiang Zhengqi Water (for preventing heatstroke)
  • If sunburn causes serious skin problems, you may be exempt from training; get your medical records and diagnosis ready in advance
  • If you are sick, absolutely do not push through
Category Item Notes
Sun protection Sunscreen, sunscreen spray Strongly recommended; Qingdao has high UV
Hydration Large-capacity water bottle Very important; stay hydrated
Cleaning Wet wipes, tissues For wiping sweat and cleaning
Insoles Thick insoles, sanitary pads Provided insoles are uncomfortable; essential
Hair Small hair clips, hair ties Keep hair tied up
Supply Appropriate amount of sugar Prevent low blood sugar
Medical Band-aids For treating minor wounds
Backpack School bag / shoulder bag For personal items; place in designated area

Dietary Advice

  1. Eat on time; never train on an empty stomach
  2. Physical exertion is extremely high after training; eat more meat and eggs, and drink more soup and vegetable broth
  3. Pay attention to supplementing various vitamins
  4. If you have low blood sugar, it’s best to carry sugar with you
  5. Sports drinks, tea, and salt water are best; don’t drink excessive amounts of plain water or mineral water (which can cause water intoxication; you need to supplement salt appropriately)

Health Precautions

  1. After heavy rain or profuse sweating, don’t rush to drink water; rest a little first before drinking to avoid harm to your gastrointestinal system
  2. During training you should persevere, but if you really can’t hold on, you must rest and not push through, especially for students with weaker constitutions
  3. If you feel unwell, you can take a day or half-day leave
  4. During training, maintain a regular schedule to conserve energy

Other Notes

  • You can bring a school bag; it will be placed in a designated area
  • It is still recommended to bring a computer during training; the campus will be crowded with various people during this time, and although valuables are easily lost, you may need to select courses, so it’s best to properly secure your valuables and lock your dorm room
  • Before going out, carefully check your training uniform: military cap, cap badge, arm insignia, belt, etc., or you will be criticized or punished by the instructor
  • During training, you don’t have to use the school-provided bed sheets and duvet covers; you can use your own
  • Bedding from the school is not mandatory; using the school’s standard sizes makes tidying the dorm easier
  • Make sure your outfit is appropriate; check before going out
  • Learn about something called the “retirement squad” or “leave of absence”
  • Communicate: During military training, learn to communicate with classmates; if you have difficulties, humbly seek help from classmates and teachers (wearing uniforms, marching, standing at attention, folding military quilts, etc.)
