Study & Competition Tips

  • Master core courses: data structures, algorithms, operating systems, computer networks
  • For algorithm competitions, join the Algorithm Association and practice on OI-Wiki, LeetCode, Codeforces
  • Use official docs and search engines, develop self-study skills, find your interest early. Graduate school/recommendation/career are usually mutually exclusive
  • Write more code, practice more, use project output to drive learning
  • It's essential to keep up with cutting-edge application technologies, even just for experience, especially AI technologies that are clearly going to transform work patterns. After all, the construction of this wiki platform, including the integration of most text information, was handled by Agent in July 2026.
  • Note that computer science doesn't mean you must work in the internet industry. Keep your options open. CS majors have advantages in machine vision, motion control, robotics, embedded systems, navigation and positioning, and many other fields.

Party Membership

For the full process, see Party Membership. Briefly for our college: Good grades, good grades, good grades. Exam course ranking in top 50% is mandatory; the higher the better. Even if you're a class officer, student council member, or close with teachers, poor grades will definitely prevent "priority development" — you'll have to wait until senior year.

Party membership quota ratios are generally higher for undergraduates than graduates, based on the college's overall indicators. Generally, fewer quotas are given to juniors, with more for即将毕业的 seniors. For CS and Software Engineering, the same major gets fewer than 10 development quotas per semester for juniors, roughly averaging within 10% of the major's students having the opportunity to become full members. Including probationary members, this ratio reaches about 15%.

To develop early and become a full member before graduation, you need to simultaneously meet "excellent academic performance" and "cadre experience + substantial volunteer service hours" — missing either means waiting until senior year. There's also a possibility of excellent students getting a development opportunity in spring of junior year to boost their postgraduate recommendation applications, but priority goes to those with cadre experience.

The CS college's activist exam content is only the Party Constitution, and the development target training exam has similar reference content and format. Grading is strict, with about one-third of students failing each year, having to wait another semester.

Failing a course (not passing even the retake) means no development consideration within four years of undergraduate study, unless pursuing graduate studies at the same university. Failing a course (passing the retake) won't disqualify you, but will affect your ranking.

Overall, the CS college's Party development is fair due to public disclosure. Even if you feel aggrieved, seeing the public list name by name leaves no room for complaints. Quotas are limited — opportunities must be pursued. Aspiring students should maintain good exam grades from freshman year without cheating or violations.

In most cases, Party membership doesn't bring much utilitarian benefit — it's more about responsibility and dedication.

Postgraduate Recommendation

The CS college's postgraduate recommendation follows the university's unified regulations, starting annually in September. Policy details (basic requirements, comprehensive score calculation, development quality bonuses) see Exams & Grades - Postgraduate Recommendation. Here's what the documents won't explicitly say but experienced students care about:

Quotas and Competition

The university allocates quotas to colleges, then colleges distribute by major. Quotas are not fixed percentages but based on graduate numbers and training quality, typically falling in the single-digit percentage of total major enrollment — what everyone calls "top 5% or so." "Top 5% for recommendation" isn't wrong, but it describes the final result, not the policy standard. The real thresholds in the documents are:

  • First three years exam course average ranking not below top 30% (minimum for application eligibility);
  • But quotas are limited, so actually getting it basically requires being in the top 5% or higher.

In other words, top 30% is the "application line," top 5% is the "competition line." The middle 25% can apply but will likely be spectators — that's not cruelty, it's reality. CS is inherently competitive.

For CS Students, Focus on Three Points

1. Grades are life itself — raise your weighted average as early as possible.

Comprehensive score = Academic score × 90% + Development quality × 10%. Academic score counts 90% — that's the hard truth. CS courses (calculus, linear algebra, data structures, OS, networks, compilers) are all exam courses counted in the weighted average. Freshman year has few courses but high individual weight — it's the golden period to pull ahead. Every point in the first three years serves that final ranking. Don't believe "60 points is enough in college" — that's for those not aiming for recommendation.

2. CET-6 is a hidden threshold — don't delay until junior year.

Non-foreign language majors require CET-6 ≥ 426 (or IELTS≥6/TOEFL≥80). Note: it's CET-6, not CET-4. Many capable students who didn't pass CET-6 have to give up with no backup chance. Recommend passing CET-6 in sophomore year; 426 is enough — no need for high scores (no bonus to comprehensive score). By the way, CET-6 can be retaken for higher scores, but 426 and 600 are treated the same for recommendation — don't waste time on this.

3. Failing a course = immediate disqualification, no negotiation.

"No failing grades in required courses" is absolute. Even if ranked first overall, one failing required course means immediate disqualification. So for CS's tough courses (especially Calculus I, Data Structures), prepare thoroughly before exams.

Competitions & Research: How Bonuses Work

Comprehensive development quality counts 10% — seems small, but in the top 5% bracket where top students compete, a single point can determine your fate. For CS students, the most relevant bonus items are:

Important Notes

  • Students who放弃 recommendation quotas must sign written放弃承诺书, with spots filled sequentially by comprehensive score ranking
  • Those who obtained recommendation qualification but are disciplined or cannot graduate normally will have qualification revoked by Ministry of Education
  • Falsification in application materials results in immediate disqualification
  • Relatives participating in the selection must actively回避
  • The process is subject to college and university-level public disclosure, with university discipline commission supervision

If you can establish a solid computer science foundation in three or four years, have relatively strong mathematical skills and coding ability, have written many thousand-line projects, master at least two or three mainstream languages like C/C++/Java/Python, and have dabbled in algorithms, operating systems, computer networks, databases, web development, etc.—then regardless of choosing employment or research, you will have considerable confidence.
