Registration Process

What to Do on Registration Day

Registration day mainly involves: new student check-in, collecting campus card, getting dormitory keys, moving into dorms, familiarizing with campus, attending orientation meeting, etc. The specific registration time will be announced by the school. As for when to arrive — it's crowded no matter when you go, so don't overthink it.

CS College and other science/engineering departments: Freshmen at Jinjialing Campus (East Campus), moving to Fushan Campus from sophomore year

Detailed Registration Process

After arriving at school, find your college's welcome staff (they'll be holding college flags), who will guide you to the new student reception
At the reception, complete new student verification by presenting your ID card, admission letter, and exam ticket. Students bringing their own files need to submit them
Collect your registration certificate, which shows your college and student number
With the registration certificate, complete accommodation procedures at the dormitory management center or apartment office to get your dormitory key
Put your luggage in the dormitory
Go to the centralized office to complete enrollment procedures:
Pay tuition and fees (students who had automatic bank deduction can collect receipts with admission letter)
Household registration transfer (Security Office, submit transfer certificate)
Insurance (Student Affairs Office, voluntary)
Campus card (Logistics Group)
Party/League membership transfer (Youth League Committee, submit introduction letter)
Green Channel (Student Affairs Office, students from financially disadvantaged families can enroll first and receive aid later)

Can Parents Enter Campus?

During orientation, parents can enter the campus and help move into dorms. Driving into campus may require a pass.

Can I Register Early?

You cannot arrive 1-2 days early. You must register according to the school's orientation schedule. However, you can arrive in Qingdao early to settle in.

1-inch photos: about 10 copies (for registration, student ID card, student organizations, clubs, Party membership, resume, work-study applications, student ID replacement, etc.), keep digital copies for printing as needed
2-inch photos: 4-8 copies (used less frequently)
ID card photocopies (front and back) and household registration photocopies (first page and personal page), 2 copies each
Bank deposit receipt (if lost, can get a new certificate from the bank)
Portrait photo: Go to a photo studio for a student ID photo, prepare red, blue, and white background versions

Photo Tips

No specific background color requirement for ID photos. Prepare both 1-inch and 2-inch sizes.最好不要戴眼镜 for ID photos. Keep digital copies safe.

Student Loans

Loan Application

After loans begin, local loan departments will issue relevant regulations. Prepare materials (requirements vary by location). Generally needed: - Original and photocopies of borrower and co-borrower ID cards - Original household registration book - Original and photocopy of admission letter - Certificate from village/township/street office

Log in to the National Development Bank Student Online Service System (http://www.csls.cdb.com.cn) to register, fill out and print the application form with official stamp.

After the Loan

Bring the loan contract and receipt when school starts; the school will record loan students
Money arrives in about 2-3 months
No need to deposit tuition in school bank account if you have a loan — only deposit living expenses
Excess loan funds can be used for living expenses

Alipay Real-name Registration

The Alipay account used for student loans must be real-name registered, otherwise funds will be frozen. Frozen funds can only be viewed on computer, not on mobile.

Financial Aid Application

The application form in the admission letter can be used for financial aid applications after school starts (unrelated to loans). It needs official stamps. Bringing additional certificates is optional.

Household Registration Transfer

New students can apply for household registration transfer. Voluntary, not mandatory. If you don't plan to develop your career in Qingdao, there's no need to transfer. Transferring household registration has limited benefits — discuss with your parents.

Tuition System

Qingdao University charges tuition on a credit system. Except for some Sino-foreign cooperative programs that charge annually at a fixed price, other programs charge per semester based on credits taken.

Over four years, total tuition paid is fixed
Most programs cost about 25,000 yuan over four years; medical programs slightly more
"Average 6,000 yuan per year" in admissions brochure is for easy understanding
School automatically deducts from CCB card; online payment also available

Train Ticket Discount

The first train trip to school qualifies for student ticket discount at the ticket window with your admission letter (hard seat half price, high-speed rail 25% off). You can also buy student tickets online and apply for the discount at any time before departure at the ticket window.

Money-saving Tip

Students from far away can save a lot. Make sure to use this discount.

Clothing Preparation

Summer Clothes

Hot during and after military training, but weather turns cool after training ends. Don't bring too many summer clothes (summer lasts about one month).

Autumn Clothes

Autumn brings strong winds due to Qingdao's geographical location. Wind-resistant clothing recommended. Don't dress too warmly as indoor-outdoor temperature difference is large (autumn lasts about two months).

Winter Clothes

Windy, humid, and sometimes extremely cold. Down jacket + light layers can handle most winter days. Add a sweater for severe cold (winter lasts about two months).

Shoes

Sneakers, canvas shoes, basketball shoes, warm shoes (bring warm shoes if from far away). Slippers can be purchased at school.

Toiletries

Towel, soap, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, cup, body wash, soap dish, comb, shoe brush, laundry detergent (can buy large pack with dormmates), laundry liquid, basin, bath towel, shower bag, shower ball, shower cap, hand cream, hand soap, facial cleanser, conditioner, sunscreen/spray (strongly recommended, strong UV at seaside), face mask.

Packing Tip

Bring small bottles for laundry detergent/powder for convenience.

Dining Supplies

Lunch box (for instant noodles or fruit, not essential), utensils, water cup, water bottle, dish soap.

Essential Items

Some cash: 100 yuan is enough (for Fushan Campus water card purchase), don't bring large amounts
Phone, earphones, charging cable, power bank
Bank card: School-issued CCB card (for tuition deduction) + your own bank card. Transfer from your own card to avoid handling fees
Radio: Required for English exams, can be purchased through school or bought separately
Mosquito repellent (really needed next semester)

Optional Items

USB drive, low-power desk lamp, power strip (one per person), nail clipper, ear pick, scissors, fruit knife, sewing kit, clothes hangers, small flashlight, toilet paper, tissues, sanitary pads, glue stick, double-sided tape, mirror, hot water bottle, hand warmers, food storage bags, garbage bags, wallet, small hooks, small lock (for locker), 4m thick rope (in case no drying line), large clips (for quilts), circular hanger (for socks), mothballs.

Laptop

You can bring your laptop after the National Day holiday. During military training, the campus is crowded and students are often away from dorms, so there's a small risk of valuables being lost. Laptops won't be used much before October, but they're convenient for course selection (rushing for PE and elective courses is easier than on phone).

Laptop Purchase

Not recommended to use Apple MacBook as all learning software is Windows-based. For non-gamers, an integrated graphics thin-and-light laptop with good CPU is fine. CS students recommended 32GB RAM or expandable memory.

Online Shopping

Bed desk, low-power fan (recommended to buy next semester), curtains (some dorms need them), ladder pad (for bunk beds).

Medicine

Most students may experience altitude sickness at first. Campus-area pharmacies are slightly expensive. Recommended to bring:

Wind oil essence, floral water (commonly used next semester, also refreshing)
Vitamin C, Vitamin B
Watermelon frost spray, ice boron powder (for mouth ulcers)
Stomach medicine (essential for those with stomach issues)
Anti-inflammatory medicine (roxithromycin, amoxicillin)
Cold medicine
Fever reducer (aspirin)
Bandages, gauze, medical cotton, cotton swabs
Band-aids
Anti-diarrhea medicine
Huoxiang Zhengqi water (prevents heatstroke during military training)

School Supplies

Only need pens and notebooks — buy at school after arrival. Don't buy school supplies from unofficial sources.

Bedding

Provided by school (instructions in admission letter):

Quilt, mattress, wool pad, quilt cover ×2, bed sheet ×2, mosquito net, pillow core, pillow towel ×2, pillowcase ×2, summer quilt, bedding bag.

School bedding can only be ordered as a complete set, quality is decent. You can also bring everything yourself.

Course Selection Info

Freshman Course Selection

First semester freshmen only need to select PE class. Course selection is announced during later military training. Other courses arranged by academic affairs.

General Electives

Courses divided into core and non-core. Non-core courses are generally easier, like "Qingdao Tourism Geography". Need 6 credits for core, 4 for non-core, 2 for aesthetics. Freshman priority is low — popular courses recommended for sophomore/junior year.

Schedule Lookup

After schedule is set, search "QDU Academic Affairs" on Baidu to log in, or use WeChat account "Qingxiaozhu".

Common Expenses Reference

Living expenses: 800-1200 yuan/month for food alone, varies by person
Tuition: Determined by credits, most programs about 25,000 yuan over four years
Textbooks: Distributed at start of semester
Physical exam: Arranged by school, no need for pre-exam

Files & Party/League Membership

High School Files

Bring high school files and League files to school during registration. File folder contains student status materials and League/Party relationship certificates.

League Membership Transfer

League membership transferred by class League secretary through the "Smart League Building" system. Processed after school starts. Don't rush if high school pushes you. Introduction letter and transfer documents should be in one envelope — bring it to school.

Party Membership Application

First submit application, then become an activist through organizational observation, then probationary member, then full member. Quarterly thought reports required. Applications typically submitted during or after military training.

Other Notes

Class assignment: Randomized based on student origin and gender ratio, not by grades
Bank card activation: CCB card from admission letter can be activated in Qingdao at any CCB branch. Possible small perks for activating in Qingdao
Campus SIM card: Don't have to use the one from admission letter. Choose freely. Can also register at college on registration day
Daily supplies purchase: Most dorm supplies available at school stores. You can even just bring change of clothes
