The events, time, and location of the annual sports meet may be adjusted; this article is for understanding the process and event rules, specific information is subject to the competition regulations of that year.

~~Annual school-wide gathering, no classes and you can watch handsome guys and beautiful girls (?)~~ The campus sports meet is one of QDU's grandest collective activities; classes are suspended for two days, and all teachers and students gather at Fushan Campus Central Stadium.

Who Can Participate

Students: Any currently enrolled student with valid student status and in good health can register.
Faculty and Staff: Active faculty and staff can register.

Competition Groups:

Students: Men's Student Group, Women's Student Group
Faculty/Staff: Divided into Group A and Group B by age 45—born before December 31, 1978 is Group A (over 45), born after January 1, 1979 is Group B (under 45)

Men's Student Group

100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m, 4×100m relay, 4×400m relay, high jump, long jump, triple jump, shot put (7.26kg), backward medicine ball throw (3kg), softball throw, rock crossing, 100m face-to-face relay

Women's Student Group

100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 4×100m relay, 4×400m relay, high jump, long jump, triple jump, shot put (4kg), backward medicine ball throw (2kg), softball throw, rock crossing, 60m face-to-face relay

Student Mixed Group

Penguin Walk Relay, Ball Balancing Relay, Plank Jump Face-to-Face Relay

Faculty/Staff Group

Ball Balancing, Standing Long Jump, Softball Throw Accuracy, Rolling Ball Target Hit, Shot put (men 5kg, women 4kg), Rock Crossing; Faculty Group A/B Mixed 4×100m Relay (two men, two women)

Fun Event Rules (Key Introduction)

These are the events with the most laughter throughout, ~~intense competitors beware~~, participation is what matters:

Penguin Walk Relay: Teams of 6 (3 men, 3 women), three volleyballs held between legs and arms, run around markers at 20 meters and return; if ball drops, pick up and continue
Ball Balancing Relay: Teams of 8 (4 men, 4 women), balance a softball on a badminton racket with one hand; ball cannot touch ground or be touched by hand; 40-meter course (return at 20 meters)
Rock Crossing: Stand on three "river rocks" and move forward alternately; 15-meter course; body cannot touch anything other than rocks
Plank Jump Face-to-Face Relay: Teams of 10 (5 men, 5 women), hold plank between knees and jump forward; 30-meter face-to-face relay; if plank drops, re-secure before continuing
Face-to-Face Relay: Single leg men 100m, women 60m; each team 20 people divided into two groups of 10 at each end; baton exchange must be behind end line; dropped baton must be picked up by the passer

Registration Rules

Sports meet uses online registration, and a stamped written registration form must be submitted to the School of Physical Education's Training and Competition Department for filing (under Shenxing Building, phone 85955019)
Registration form is sent as email attachment to qdqt@qdu.edu.cn; deadline is 3 PM on a certain day about one week before competition; no changes allowed afterward

Participant Limits

Team Size	Students maximum 40, faculty/staff maximum 30; no gender ratio requirement

Insufficient Registration	Events with fewer than 3 participants are automatically cancelled

Scoring and Placement

Individual men's and women's groups each place top eight, scored as 9, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1
Events with fewer than 8 participants reduce placement by 1
Breaking provincial, municipal university, or university records adds 27, 18, 9 points respectively (same event multiple record breaks only add highest score)
Relay events (excluding fun relays) placement is scored double
Face-to-face relay units all receive points, decreasing by number of participating teams (e.g., if 20 teams participate, first place gets 20 points, last place gets 1)
Student men's and women's group total scores and mixed group total scores are calculated separately

Participant Notes

Athletes must present campus card and number bib after check-in to compete
Check-in time: Track events 30 minutes early, field events 40 minutes early, faculty fun events 20 minutes early
Mobile phones and other valuables cannot be brought into check-in area or competition venues
For relay events, upper body clothing color must be unified; non-unified clothing results in disqualification
Face-to-face relay requires each athlete to wear college identification on chest (20×30cm)
Colleges and departments participating in the entrance ceremony must have unified clothing
Participating units must purchase personal accident insurance for athletes

Never Do These

Impersonators will have both the impersonated and impersonator disqualified, and the team's total score and "Spiritual Civilization Unit" eligibility cancelled; unjustified withdrawal also cancels the unit's "Spiritual Civilization Unit" eligibility.

Opening Ceremony

The opening ceremony is held at 7:30 AM on the first day; athletes, referees, and spectators from all units must gather by 7:00 AM.

Opening ceremony program approximately:

Athletes enter (order: national flag team, university flag team, colorful flag team, bouquet team, athlete teams)
Introduction of attending leaders and guests
University leader declares sports meet open
Raise national flag, play and sing national anthem
Raise university flag, sing university anthem
University leader delivers opening speech
Athlete representative oath, referee representative oath
Athletes exit
Baduanjin, aerobics performance
Competition begins

Spiritual Civilization Unit Evaluation

The sports meet also selects "Spiritual Civilization Units," mainly based on:

Timely entry and exit, neat formation, distinctive spectator area arrangement
High spectator attendance, no tardiness or early departure, good spirit
Organizing cheerleaders to cheer for athletes
Active submission of manuscripts, promoting good deeds
Environmental protection, no fruit peels or paper scraps when leaving

Disqualification for: Deliberately contradicting, insulting referees and staff; fighting or other serious interference with sports meet order; falsification, impersonation, or other violations of sports ethics.

Tips

Two days of competition are basically full-day; students without competition events generally watch as spectators in designated areas (cannot walk freely in competition venues)
May in Qingdao has strong midday UV; as spectators, remember to bring water, sunscreen, cushion/small stool as needed
Students wanting to participate should watch for college physical education department registration notices; per person limit 2 events, popular events have limited spots; act fast
Faculty events like rolling ball target hit and softball throw accuracy are fun; worth watching when passing by
